Field Application Case of Paper Strength Agent AD‑02 at a Cultural Paper Mill in Shandong
Cultural paper manufacturers often struggle with poor pulp drainage, limited machine speed, high steam consumption in drying section, insufficient folding endurance, and high loss of fine fibers in white water. Our cationic paper strength agent AD‑02 has delivered proven benefits during a mill trial at a cultural paper plant in Shandong.
Trial Objective Improve pulp drainage, raise paper machine speed, reduce steam consumption, boost retention rate and upgrade physical strength of finished paper. Paper Grade: 80g cultural paper Dosing Point: Inlet of No.1 fan pump
Trial Procedure The trial started at 8:34 a.m. with an initial dosage of 0.5 kg per ton paper. The dosage was gradually increased to 2 kg/T at 8:44, then to 4 kg/T at 9:28. Around 11:00, the starch dosage was reduced by 2.5 kg/T. At 14:55, the dosage was adjusted up to 6 kg/T. During the whole trial, the consumption of retention aid decreased, and the paper machine ran at a higher speed. No abnormal flocculation or wire clogging occurred.
Trial Results
Pre‑dry steam pressure: When dosage increased from 0 kg/T to 4 kg/T, average pre‑dry steam pressure dropped sharply from 213.25 kPa to 184.33 kPa, a 13.56% reduction. When dosage rose from 4 kg/T to 6 kg/T, the pressure fell further to 171 kPa (7.23% drop).
Steam flow rate: At 4 kg/T dosage, average steam flow reduced from 39.7 t/h to 38.25 t/h. At 6 kg/T, it decreased to 37.4 t/h, though the marginal benefit slowed down.
White water concentration: White water concentration declined after dosing, hitting the lowest value at 4 kg/T dosage, which proves better retention of fines and fillers.
Folding endurance: The finished paper gained better folding resistance after adding AD‑02, with the best improvement achieved at 4 kg/T.
Overall, 4 kg/T is the cost‑effective dosage balancing energy saving, retention and paper strength. Further increasing dosage brings limited extra gains and raises chemical cost.
Long‑term Usage after Trial The mill has kept using our AD‑02 paper strength agent after the on‑machine test. The routine working dosage is 3~4 kg per ton paper.
AD‑02 is cationic polyacrylamide polymer, cross‑linked from low‑molecular‑weight PAM and aldehyde, with molecular weight of about 500,000. It improves dry strength via hydrogen bonding with cellulose fibers, enhances pulp drainage and first‑pass retention. Suitable for cultural paper, container board, made from wood pulp, recycled pulp and bamboo pulp. The liquid additive can be diluted simply and fed through metering pump at fan pump inlet without major equipment modification.
If you are facing low machine speed, high steam cost or unsatisfactory paper strength, welcome to contact us for on‑machine trial. TDS, MSDS and test samples are available for evaluation.
