Paper cushioning is a type of paper-based protective packaging material used for wrapping, void filling, and safeguarding items. Its primary function is to absorb shocks and vibrations during transit or handling, thereby preventing internal contents from being damaged by collisions, drops, or compression. It is also used to fill voids within shipping boxes-preventing items from shifting or rattling inside-thereby reducing the risk of breakage; additionally, when wrapped around items, it protects against scratches, abrasion, or contamination.

 

Paper cushioning is typically manufactured from paper (such as recycled paper) and is both recyclable and biodegradable. After use, it can decompose under composting conditions, allowing it to rapidly reintegrate into the natural environment without leaving behind any polluting residues. It is lightweight, ensuring it does not significantly increase a package's overall weight or shipping costs. Furthermore, it is generally flexible and highly moldable, making it easy to wrap around items, use as void fill, or crumple into balls to stuff into empty spaces. Compared to other cushioning materials-such as plastic foams (e.g., EPS foam or bubble wrap)-paper cushioning is typically more cost-effective. Its applications are extremely broad: whether protecting fragile items like cosmetics, ceramics, and artwork, or safeguarding precision electronic and mechanical equipment, paper cushioning can adapt to the specific characteristics of diverse cargo types, effectively absorbing transit-related vibrations and shocks to minimize the risk of product damage.

 

Common types of paper cushioning include honeycomb paper pads/edge protectors/paper pallets, corrugated paper pads/dividers, shredded paper fill, air-filled paper cushions, and Kraft paper/crepe paper. Among these, Kraft paper pads are particularly versatile, as they can be easily utilized with various types of paper cushioning machinery-including automated void-fill systems and manual paper-dispensing machines.
